Showing up for your Writing

So, I've been back at work four days and all was going well… until today. At about 3pm, I started to feel poorly out of the blue, and it almost stopped me from sending this to you this evening. But then it got me thinking: Have you ever felt like you were unable to show up for yourself or for your writing?

I know I have, so I figured that now's the time for us to work together and make it happen less. Complete with a cuppa and a hot water bottle, I'm here because you and your writing are really important to me.

Last week, you helped me to kickstart mine and allowed me to share a special poem of mine with you. Your lovely comments about how it reminded you of loved ones really made it worth it. So much so that, on Sunday, I kicked off the day with a 30-minute writing exercise and wrote FICTION! That was all because you inspired me to keep writing, thank you. Now I want to do the same for you.

Wordsmith has been going since 2013, and we've supported and published over 500 writers online and offline. Over that time, we've realised that, whilst they are really helpful, writing schedules and routines are not the easiest thing in the world to stick to (especially not in January when we're all trying so hard to stick to hundreds of different New Year's resolutions!).

The key is to find the right type of routine for you, so I've rounded up our top tips below to help you show up (even for a smaller commitment) and edge closer to your big hairy writing goals of 2019!

I know that things can get in the way sometimes - time (and feeling like you don't have any around your other commitments), feeling unorganised, feeling poorly, or not having the right support, can all make you feel like you're on your own - especially because writing is such a solitary thing. But, that's where the Wordsmith team and I come in.

We're here to support you. We'll help to hold you accountable if you think that would help. What's more, if you achieve your commitments, no matter how big or small, we'll reward you with Wordsmith goodies, too!

On Sunday, join us as we reveal the first of our special Wordsmith rewards right here for you ahead of the launch of our new website and offering on Monday morning.

Finally, I'd love to hear from you about how it's going so far. What are you struggling with? What is going well? Do you already have a writing schedule and, if so, could you share your tips with us for the wider Wordsmith community?

You can send me an email or comment below and I’ll share your tips on Sunday!

Thank you (with hugs from bed)
