On my Daughter's First Sleepover with Rainbows by Elizabeth Shaw

On my daughter’s first sleepover with Rainbows

The house is still.

No irritating cartoon music on repeat,

no pleading for the last bag of sweets.

No scattered Disney costumes to pick up,

no-one drinking the juice in her cup.

No roll of the die or counting to ten,

no toys being played with, or scratching of pens.

I sit on the sofa with my cup of tea,

as the clock on the mantle ticks patiently.
